Preclinical Models of Islet Transplantation
davalli.alberto@hsr.it

Because of its minor surgical invasiveness, pancreatic islet transplantation represents an appealing way to cure people with diabetes. However, islet allotransplantation in humans have raised several issues that is impossible to address in human studies. The objective of our research is learning more about the fate of islet grafts performed in preclinical experimental models. We are interested in the identification of strategies aimed at improving the engraftment and survival of the islet grafts that, translated to the human setting, may improve the outcome of this procedure in the Clinic.
