Our studies are focused on the pancreatic islet transplantation in type 1 diabetic patients. This procedure consists on the isolation of islets of Langerhans, the biological unit secreting insulin, their purification from the exocrine tissue and their transplantation in local anesthesia in type 1 diabetic patients. Our efforts are aimed at making the transplantation an effective therapeutic tool for type 1 diabetes able to restore the normoglicemia in many recipients for long time.
