The allergic immune response is characterized by dysfunctions which are reminiscent of autoimmunity. Allergy targets specific antigens, defined allergens, which physiologically should not be recognized as molecular components of invaders, by means of antibodies of the IgE isotypes and cells of the Th2 phenotype.
