INSPE: Neuromusular Repair Unit
previtali.stefano@hsr.it

Neuromuscular disorders include diseases of the peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junctions or muscles. In general are characterized by severe disability due to weakness, muscle atrophy, and/or sensory deficits and pain, which may affects quality and length of life. Symptoms mainly relay on progressive tissue damage with inefficient regeneration. At present, except for inflammatory and some metabolic disorder, in the majority of the neuromuscular disorders there are no useful therapies. The research field of the unit is to understand the role of adhesion in neuromuscular disorders and in the mechanisms that sustain tissue regeneration. The research covers the main components of adhesion such as the extracellular matrix, adhesive receptors, and cytoskeleton molecules. The goal is to interfere with adhesion in order to favor tissue regeneration.
